Physical Education

Our Vision for Physical Education at Jupiter Primary School

PE is an integral part of our curriculum and allows all children to have their moment to shine. There are wide and varied sports covered within Jupiter Primary School, which challenge children to develop their sporting skills and values, as well as those of teamwork, co-operation and sportsmanship. Lessons are led by sports coaches as well as by teaching staff. Children are active and show enjoyment throughout their PE lessons. They have access to high quality resources, which enable them to participate fully in a wide variety of sports.

Teachers promote a healthy lifestyle by teaching children the benefits of sporting activities and their effect on the body. Children are engaged and motivated within the lessons, wanting to develop as sportsmen. In addition, they are all keen to engage in the wide range of extra curricular sporting activities, which are readily available at lunch times and after school. Year 5 and 6 Play Leaders are inspired through leadership opportunities, where they can demonstrate and develop their skills. They receive training and have resources which allow them to lead activities and clubs at lunch times, which provide purpose for everyone on the playground. Children take ownership of the role as they develop their skills.

Competition is an integral part of PE, both within lessons and through inter school events. As the children have accessed high quality lessons, they go on to win competitions regularly and this is celebrated as a whole school. Older pupils lead in-school competitions for younger pupils in their PE lessons which allows all children to participate in competitions regularly. Links with local clubs and the wider community provide opportunities to upskill both teachers and children, providing them with rich curriculum experiences and quality CPD. Our children aspire to achieve in PE and local sportsmen and women are advocates for this. Children leave Jupiter and go on to succeed in sports, becoming successful athletes in the future.

Our Physical Education Curriculum

At Jupiter Primary School, we recognise the important role of P.E. in promoting long term, healthy lifestyles. The intent of our P.E. curriculum is to provide all children with high quality P.E. and sport provision. We inspire our pupils through fun and engaging P.E. lessons that are enjoyable, challenging and accessible to all. We want our pupils to appreciate the benefits of a healthy and physically active lifestyle and showcase abilities not always visible in a classroom setting. Through our teaching of P.E., we provide opportunities for pupils to develop not only physical skills, but values and transferrable life skills such as fairness and respect, as well as providing them with opportunities to take part in competitive sport.
